A Day At The Park is heading to the Sutherland shire on November 14th, 2009. The event will feature a diverse palate full of some of Australia’s best musicians – a sumptuous mix of legends, acoustic balladeers, blues & roots entertainers, indie rockers and some recognizable pop names, A Day At The Park promises to serve up a little something for everyone.

There will be plenty of space to kick back and relax on a picnic rug, roam around getting full at one of the many fine food stalls, two big stages for you to get up close to, and plenty of space to shake your booty. What better way to spend a Spring day than to be surrounded by all of that.

And because the good folk behind A Day At The Park want to share their fun with everyone, tickets have been kept to a conservative and affordable price (kids under five get in for free).

The second lot of bands and full, finer event details will be announced mid August so keep your eyes peeled to your favourite press outlets for more or check out www.adayatthepark.com.au

More on the fabulous folk in our first line up:

In 1981 the Hoodoo Gurus came together to create an outfit way ahead of its time that would outlast many of their peers and provide the sound track to a generation. The following 28 years saw them release some of Australia’s most recognised and loved
modern anthems. In 2007 they were bestowed with the honor of an ARIA Hall Of Fame induction, in the their testimonial they were described as “one of the most inventive, lyrically smart and exciting rock ‘n’ roll bands Australia has ever produced…” a career spanning three decades, with the love of multiple generations, it’s impossible to argue with that.

Since 1992, You Am I have bagged seven ARIA Awards, set a record for three consecutive straight to #1 albums (for Hi Fi Way, Hourly Daily and No.4 Record), attracted legions of adoring fans, sound-tracked two movies (Idiot Box, Dirty Deeds),
picked up some heavyweight admirers/touring partners (Oasis, Soundgarden, Sonic Youth), been asked to gig with their idols (The Who, The Rolling Stones), gave foreign artists their first widespread exposure downunder (The Strokes, The Detroit Cobras, The
Dirtbombs), AND inspired a host of Australian bands to do things their own damn way.

The Beautiful Girls gave their fans a fright in 2008 when they took time out so frontman Mat McHugh could indulge in a solo record. But never fear, they enjoyed the creative break, and are back working on new material. The trio have been busy the past few
months, touring through Japan, the USA, Europe and Brazil where they headlined sell out shows of more than 5000 punters a night.

From their rootsy beginnings, to their electro reggae sounds of now, The Beautiful Girls continue on their quest to deliver a new feel, a new sound along with their new lease on musical life.

Multiple award-winning Bluesman Ash Grunwald joins us for A Day At The Park. A late bloomer in the music world, Ash only picked up his guitar in his early twenties, with ten years of constant touring around Australia and the world, he has honed his skills and built his fan base in a short, but very concentrated period. His latest release Fish Out Of Water, has seen him diversify from his past sound, melting his traditional blues with thumping urban electronic beats, and a hip-hop flavoured rhythm section.

Bertie Blackman’s first encounter with her artistic self came as a child sashaying across her mother and father’s paint strewn studio floor. The daughter of iconic Australian artist Charles Blackman, not many musicians can boast a foundation of emotional expression like Bertie. Bertie first stepped onto the scene with ‘Headway’ (2004), her folk-inspired debut album powered by acoustic guitar. The album’s single ‘Favourite Jeans’ became Bertie’s radio breakthrough and saw her dubbed “Australia’s underground queen”.

Constantly evolving as an artist, Bertie continues to develop her sound on ‘Secrets and Lies’ (2009) blending electronic influences with her signature vocal style and penchant for brutally honest lyrics in a modern exploration of pop music, she brings that honesty to A Day At The Park.

Richard Clapton is without a doubt one of Australia’s foremost singer/songwriters, with a career unparalleled throughout the history of Australian music. Clapton paved the way for three generations of songwriters to write about the experience of being Australian.

2008 marks the 35th anniversary of Richards debut album released here in 1973. When he began his recording career in 1973, Australia was still in vice-like grip of the cultural cringe. He plunged into the deep water and in his wake followed the Skyhooks
and Paul Kelly, Cold Chisel, INXS, Midnight Oil and hundreds of others. Clapton’s songs are still on the radio. His records chart the political landscape of the nation and the turbulent lives of two generations.

Take enough twang to comfortably wear the spurs of country. Drag it urgently down a bleak and moody path of post-punk morbid fascination, and then rescue it with coquettish balladry and triumphant choruses. Top it all off with a big hunk of energetic Aussie self-produced indie credibility and you have out next addition to the line up, local Cronulla indie darlings, Dead Letter Chorus.
